Most two-wheeler manufacturers have restarted operations in India while following government safety guidelines. BMW Motorrad is expected to follow suit soon. The first BS6-compliant offering from the German brand comes in the form of the F 900 R, a new bike in the roadster range.
The BMW F 900 R is priced at Rs 9.90 lakh ex-showroom, India. It replaces the F 800 R and marks the Bavarian brand’s return to the middleweight naked segment after almost a decade. The F 900 R takes its design cues from the BMW Roadster and features a muscular yet sleek design language.
The F 900 R’s feature includes a full LED headlight with cornering lights (optional), an LED tail light, and turn indicators. In terms of electronics, it gets two standard ride modes (Road, Rain) and ASC Automatic Stability Control. You could opt for an optional Pro package which offers keyless ignition, ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), Engine Braking Control (EBC), Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), the new engine drag torque control (MSR), and an electronically adjustable mono-shock. The bike even comes with adjustable brake and clutch levers and a 6.5-inch full-color TFT screen.
The BMW F 900 R is powered by a reworked 853cc motor that powers the F 750 GS and F 850 GS. It’s been bored out to displace 895cc and now produces 105PS and 92Nm on tap.
The F 900 R features a new steel frame with a 43 upside-down fork and a mono-shock. Twin 320mm disc brakes up front and a single 265mm disc brake at the rear paired with dual-channel ABS handle braking duties.
It primarily competes with the Kawasaki Z900 in its segment. However, if you were to consider its price bracket, the BMW F 900 R also takes on the KTM 790 Duke, Ducati Monster 821 and the Triumph Street Triple RS.
