Royal Enfield offers the Interceptor 650 in a bunch of new colour schemes along with a couple of already-existing ones. The base Orange Crush, Canyon Red, and Ventura Blue retail at Rs 2,88,815. The mid-spec Downtown Drag, Sunset Strip, and Baker Express cost Rs 2,97,229. The top-end chromed-out Mark 2 colour variant will set you back by Rs 3,14,682 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
The Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 comes with a twin-pod analogue instrument cluster with a digital inset that shows the odometer, along with dual trip meter readings, and the fuel level. The lighting system on the Interceptor is an all-bulb one. We would have liked it if Royal Enfield had included at least an LED tail lamp along with a gear position indicator. As far as safety is concerned, the bike gets a dual-channel ABS as standard. For a more relaxed riding stance, it comes with an easy-to-reach braced handlebar, mid-set footpegs, and a bench seat.
The new BS6-compliant motorcycle remains mechanically unchanged. There is a negligible 0.2PS drop in power, now rated at 47.45PS. The peak torque remains the same, at 52Nm, and the engine is mated to a 6-speed transmission along with an assist and slipper clutch. Thanks to the counterbalancer, the 648cc parallel twin air-cooled motor is refined even while cruising at triple-digit speeds on the highway.
The bike employs a double-cradle frame linked to a telescopic front fork and a pair of gas-charged preload-adjustable rear shock absorbers. Braking is via a 320mm front and a 240mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle rolls on spoke wheels shod with a 100-section front and 130-section rear, both tubed tyres from Ceat. At 202kg without fuel, the bike is on the heavier side.
The Interceptor 650 competes against the Kawasaki Z650. For its price, you could also get the Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM 390 Duke, and the KTM RC 390.
